Book: The Midwich Cuckoos by John Wyndham

In the sleepy English Village of Midwich, a mysterious silver object appears and all the inhabitants fall unconscious. A day later the object is gone and everyone wakes unharmed - except that all the women in the village are discovered to be pregnant.

The Midwich of Cuckoos is the classic tale of aliens in our midst, exploring how we respond when confronted by those who are innately superior to us in every conceivable way.

3 / 5.

I picked up the book randomly without knowing anything about it, all I knew is that it has a pretty cover. Then I started doing some research, looking for reviews on it and it turned out really good! Classic Sci-fi book?! Such a great fix! The story is about this small English village called Midwich where suddenly everyone fell right asleep, well.. the quote above sums it up. It's true that it took me a month to finish it but nevertheless, it's still a good read. The book was refreshing in its elegant and smooth style of writing and in its grabbing storyline. It started really well, right into the point where the story shortly begins but then, right in the middle, it just went into a dull state. You would think, that the book is about science fiction or the supernatural, it would be a fast paced thrilling book but it's not. It has its off moments, including the ending, it didn't offer any conclusion. However, it opens so many windows of how you see the world around you. I think I can say that the book is more philosophical than a sci-fi which is obvious in Zellaby's point of view, seeing the good in evil and sympathizing with the enemy. I enjoyed reading the book and I'm willing to read more of his books especially that we wrote couple of books that has the same theme of supernatural and science fiction.
